The original StarCraft is now free
When Blizzard formally announced StarCraft: Remastered last month, it also said it would be making the original StarCraft and its Brood War expansion free for all players. Now, the studio has made good on the promise while also updating the game to version 1.18.
Patch 1.18 is the first patch to be released for the original StarCraft in about eight years, and according to its patch notes, it adds in various tweaks and fixes to help bring it more in line with modern gaming capabilities. The patch notes also include links for downloading the original game for free on both PC and Mac. The free original version includes the Brood War expansion so it’s a great way to catch up on the original ahead of the remaster’s launch.
StarCraft: Remastered doesn’t yet have a specific release date but it is set to arrive sometime this summer.
