Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Your questions, answered
The latest installment to Call of Duty, one of the longest-running game franchises of all time, arrives this month. Modern Warfare isn't a reboot or remaster of the old Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, or Modern Warfare 3 games, and is instead an entirely separate IP altogether. In other words, it's a total reimagining of the property, using a couple of similar characters and ideas, but otherwise being entirely new. Fans of the franchise are a mix of excited and nostalgic, and that means they're very curious, too.
Unfortunately for the curious, there are quite a few important bits of info surrounding the game that haven't been revealed or are difficult to find. And with only a short time before the full release of one of the most hyped-up Call of Duty games of all time, that's a big deal. How are we supposed to know if there will be a zombies mode? What about a battle royale? There's a lot of information to follow up on, and not everyone has time to dig for all of it. To help those of you who fall under that category, we've compiled a list of the game's most asked questions on the internet, and therefore most sought after answers, leading up to the full release.
Here are the six most-asked questions surrounding the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, answered.
1) What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's release date?
This is the most popular Modern Warfare question out there right now, by a country mile. And fortunately, developers at Infinity Ward revealed it months ago, so there's no red tape to worry about. The game comes out on October 25, 2019.
2) Can I run Modern Warfare on my computer?
This question is a little more complicated, because there are a few answers. Firstly, as far as computers go, you can only run the game on Windows PCs, so even if you have the most expensive Mac money can buy, Apple just isn't going to work. And if you're asking if your Windows PC can run the game specifically, the answer is "maybe." The game's minimum requirements have been revealed, so if you want to play Modern Warfare, you'll have to at least have the following hardware:
- CPU: Intel i5 2500k/AMD FX 8350
- GPU: Nvidia GEFORCE GTX 670/AMD Radeon HD 7950
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 45GB open space
That's the bare minimum, and with it, you'll be able to run the game at its lowest settings. If you want to run the game at medium-to-high settings, though, that's a different answer. Here are the official recommended hardware specs for Modern Warfare.
- CPU: Intel i7 4770k/AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970/AMD Radeon R9 390
- RAM: 16GB
- Storage: 45GB open space
And if you want to be able to run the game with its impressive real-time ray tracing settings (RTX), you'll need at least a 20-series Nvidia GPU, such as a 2060, 2070, 2080, 2080 Ti, or any cards from the SUPER series.
3) Will Modern Warfare have a battle royale mode?
Simply put: Not yet. There have been plenty of leaks and faulty reports made from online publications and personalities, but the simple truth, at least right now, is that Infinity Ward hasn't revealed a battle royale mode for the game. If that changes, and the devs make an official announcement, or an unbiased and credible leak is pushed forward, we will update this article. For now, though, don't hold your breath.
4) Who can play Specs Ops mode in Modern Warfare?
We're not surprised that this question has been asked so many times now, given recent announcements from Sony muddying the matter. If you've heard rumors that only PlayStation players can play Spec Ops, which is the game's cooperative mode, that's not entirely true. Everyone can play Spec Ops, no matter what platform. It's Spec Ops' survival mode (aptly named Spec Ops Survival Mode) that's PS4-exclusive, but that will only last a year. It functions like any wave defense game. You hold off waves of enemies, attempting to survive for as long as you can, akin to older titles in the franchise. In October 2020, it'll be available for everyone to play.
5) Will Modern Warfare feature a Season Pass?
Modern games almost all have some sort of season pass as a method for acquiring various DLC and other add-ons after a game's launch. Call of Duty titles typically fall under that umbrella, too. Modern Warfare, however, just so happens to be the first one in a long time that won't include one. In other words, there is not, and will not, be a Season Pass for this game.
6) Will Modern Warfare have a Zombies mode?
By far, the most popular non-PvP game mode in Call of Duty history is its Zombies mode. So it makes sense that so many people are asking this question. If you're one of those people, we have some bad news: There will not be a Zombies mode of any kind in Modern Warfare.
