Summer is upon us. And that means we’ve got a fresh batch of upcoming games. The recent Xbox Showcase showed off a ton of new games coming soon, but very few of them were set for July.
While the majority of titles this year don’t really come out until later in the summer, we curated our favorites coming for the month of July 2023. We still have a good handful of great Xbox Series X and S titles and options to keep us busy through the summer.
Ed-0: Zombie Uprising
Ed-0: Zombie Uprising tasks the player with taking on hordes of the undead while in an incredibly classic Japanese setting. Play as a samurai, a ninja, or a sumo wrestler to take on zombies in a rogue-like adventure.

Use the katana as the lone samurai, Mumya, to mow down zombies. Or, you can play as Raiden, the sumo wrestler, to knock them down using your own body as a weapon. You can also hide in the shadows as Matoka, the silent assassin, striking when your enemies don’t expect it.
Since the game is procedurally generated as a rogue-like, you can keep playing it over and over without playing the same game twice. Find new ways to destroy the zombie horde in feudal Japan every time you boot the game up.
Ed-0: Zombie Uprising originally launched on Steam in Early Access back in April. Now it’s going to fully come out on July 13th for the Xbox Series X and S, as well as PlayStation 5 and Steam PC.
Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island
Let’s start with something that everyone can enjoy. In what is one of the most obviously needed crossovers in gaming, Sea of Thieves is finally getting a crossover with the Monkey Island games.

Starting July 20th, your crew can team up with Guybrush Threepwood, aspiring pirate turned governor. Coming across three monthly installments of Tall Tales, the story will pick up after the third Monkey Island game, The Curse of Monkey Island. If you haven’t played the original games, no need to worry. The “Legend” in the title of the expansion refers to all of Threepwood’s past exploits.
It’s not even just that both games have pirates. Both games feel like they were made for each other. The “A Pirate’s Life” crossover offered a Pirates of the Caribbean crossover story, which hinted at a potential Monkey Island content update eventually.
Do you fight like a dairy farmer? Or just a cow? Start playing the new story for free in Sea of Thieves, starting July 20th, on all Xbox consoles and PC.
Remnant 2
Remnant 2 is the sequel to the well-received Remnant: From the Ashes. The series has a Souls-like third-person shooter gameplay that has the players face monsters. This time around, you’re tasked with stopping a force of evil bent on destroying all of reality.

Also, you can solo the entire game, as with any Souls-like. However, in Remnant 2, you can play co-op with up to two of your friends. You don’t have to face the apocalypse alone.
Remnant 2 is coming to the Xbox Series X and S on July 25th, right alongside the PlayStation 5 and PC versions of the game. It comes in three flavors: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate versions. Each version offers additional content, such as a Remnant 1 armor pack or DLC bundles.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series Episode 1
For those that like The Expanse TV show and wish there was more content out there from the series, you’re in luck. The first episode of The Expanse: A Telltale Series is dropping in July.

The game focuses on Camina Drummer, played by Cara Gee in both the show and the Telltale game, a major character in the series. Taking place prior to season one of the show, Drummer is just trying to survive out on the edges of The Belt. Deal with pirates, a mutiny, and more while making a name for yourself and living to make it to the actual show canon.
This is the first new title to come out of the new Telltale Games since its studio closure, bankruptcy, and purchase years back. You can enjoy The Expanse: A Telltale Series Episode 1 on the Xbox Series X and S, as well as the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Epic Games Store for PC, on July 27th.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon
Some genres of games just never get old, no matter how many games come out for it or iterations of those games over the years. Beat-’em-ups are one of those particular genres. Sure, there have been plenty of games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game or Scott Pilgrim: the Game. But, one of the most iconic original games of the genre is Double Dragon.

Taking place in the year 199x (yea, keep it 90s, but vague), New York City has been ravaged by nuclear war and street gangs. Play as two of several characters as you make your way through the city to clean up the streets. Billy and Jimmy make their comeback. You can also play as characters like Billy’s girlfriend Marion, as well as a ton of unlockable options with different abilities and strengths.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon is coming out on July 27th to the Xbox Series X and S, as well as nearly everything else that can play a video game (aside from mobile).
While you’re checking out our article here, you should also check the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC releases for July 2023 as well. Games often make it to multiple systems.
While you wait, if you want to know what’s due out this month, you should check out our picks for new games coming out in June 2023. We break it all down by Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC for you there too.
