Xbox / Microsoft
If people know one thing about the multiplayer lobbies in games, it’s how much trash-talking is done in such a short amount of time. But, if you have your mic and voice chat on for an entire match, the game itself can often become pretty insufferable.
Xbox announced a new Voice Reporting feature for the current Xbox Series X|S lineup and the older Xbox One consoles. This is a feature that’s been a long time coming.
According to their announcement, that means player reporting now covers “all content including text, image, video, and voice, further supporting player safety.” Gone are the days of people being able to call people slurs without consequence.
The new Xbox Voice Reporting feature isn’t available just yet. It’ll roll out to Xbox Insiders first to get feedback and make adjustments. Then, it’ll hit the main console owner base afterward.
So, how does Xbox Voice Reporting work?
There will now be a dedicated voice reporting function within the report menu itself, similar to other current reporting functionality. Players can record the snippet and report right away or choose to do it later if, for instance, they’re in the middle of a heated match.
It’s discreet and will capture the prior 60 seconds of gameplay activity. It works similarly to capturing game videos. The clip will sit in the queue for you until you make the report yourself and is used only for that purpose.
But, don’t wait too long to make that report. It’ll disappear after only 24 hours. You do get a reminder though, that a clip is sitting there for you to review.
This is a great step in the right direction to decrease toxicity and harassment in games. This feature is going to make a lot of kids on Call of Duty learn what “FAFO” means.
Xbox Voice Reporting will be on all Xbox consoles soon.
