Oops! I guess Sony didn’t need that alleged thunder

Xbox / Microsoft

Microsoft has been embroiled in a particularly enlightening court case lately with the FTC. Between pulling the curtain to show their vulnerabilities and internal emails, Microsoft is determined to acquire Activision Blizzard by any means necessary.

Last week, we reported on Microsoft declaring the Xbox series of consoles as the loser of the “Console War” since their birth in 2001. According to the numbers and their own argument, not even Master Chief himself could finish that fight and win.

Now, in their revealed court documents and reports, Microsoft just potentially outed Sony’s future plans for their consoles. Kotaku dug into the documents to find some really interesting information.

Of course, take anything below with a grain of salt until it’s officially announced by Sony.

Microsoft, from what it's worth, has been generally viewed as the top competitor to Sony’s PlayStation line of consoles. The systems rival typically in power and game libraries.

Microsoft, during this court case, has positioned itself to show that the Nintendo Switch is where their prices usually are meant to compete with their Series S model.

Then, the bombshells came from the document. Slid into the end of a paragraph, Microsoft casually mentions some alleged unrevealed information about the company they claim is not their true competitor.

“PlayStation,” the court document adds, “likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point.”

The footnote elaborates on even more information, mentioning Sony’s “handheld version of the PlayStation 5”, also known as Project Q from recent reveals. The handheld, according to the document, will be out later in 2023 and will be under $300. That wasn’t publicly known yet.

Then, just for good measure, Microsoft mentioned a PlayStation 5 Pro, something that we had no idea was in the works, like no one was going to notice.

Good job, Microsoft. If any of this turns out to be true, we have a lot of new PlayStations due out soon. Don’t forget: We have to take all of it with a grain of salt and speculation from Microsoft’s end at this point.
