The Witcher is being made into a Netflix TV series

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a wildly successful game that earned heaps of critical praise and sat atop many game of the year lists in 2015. So it’s no surprise that a production company would be interested in bringing that world to film or television and Netflix is doing just that. However, the TV series will be based on the series of novels, not the video game.

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of the Witcher saga who famously isn’t a big fan of the games. “I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Sean Daniel (The Mummy franchise) and Jason Browne (The Expanse) will executive produce the series with Sapkowski serving as a creative consultant.

“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” Daniel and Brown added in a statement. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix.”
