Tomb Raider movie sequel finds a director

While the 2018 Tomb Raider movie reboot starring Alicia Vikander might have received a lukewarm response from critics and gamers, it did make more than $275 million at the box office on a $100 million budget. That means a sequel the movie would be a worthy risk.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. have tapped Ben Wheatley (Free Fire, High Rise) to direct a Tomb Raider sequel. The script is being written by Amy Jump, a frequent Wheatley collaborator who co-wrote Free Fire and High Rise. The film is set to be released on March 19, 2021.

We’re not sure if the sequel will follow the same storyline as Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is the sequel to the 2013 game the movie was based on, but if it does, we’ll be seeing a Lara Croft deal with PTSD as well as raiding tombs Syria, Siberia, and hidden cities.
