Three more Hearthstone expansions are due in 2018
As Blizzard gears up for the impending launch of Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Kobolds & Catacombs, the studio also took the time to confirm that at least three more expansions are planned for a 2018 release, though fans of the PvE-focused Adventure expansion type shouldn’t get their hopes up of seeing another Adventure anytime soon.
Speaking in a recent interview with Metabomb, Hearthstone lead artist Ben Thompson confirmed that Blizzard plans to stick with its existing schedule of releasing three 135-card Hearthstone sets per year, and that schedule won’t be changing for 2018.
Sadly, in the same breath, Thompson also reiterated that purely PvE Adventure expansions like the previously released Curse of Naxxramas and Blackrock Mountain likely won’t be making a return since it was harder to balance an Adventure expansion’s difficulty to accommodate both casual and dedicated players. Therefore the established model of introducing a full 135-card expansion with a bit of PvE content on the side (such as Kobolds & Catacombs’ new Dungeon Run mode) will likely remain the standard format going forward.
Kobolds & Catacombs will launch later this week on Thursday, December 7.
