Steam’s Killer Instinct port will be cross-play compatible with Xbox One and Windows 10
A few months ago, Iron Galaxy announced that its previously Xbox One/Windows 10-exclusive Killer Instinct reboot would soon be coming to Steam, a move which will undoubtedly increase the size of the game’s PC community immensely. Now, the studio has confirmed it won’t just be the game’s PC community that gets a boost in size since the Steam version will share full cross-play functionality with both the Windows 10 and Xbox One versions.
Iron Galaxy’s community manager Rukari “rukizzel” Austin confirmed the full cross-play support in a recent post on the Killer Instinct forums:
"Yes, this is your confirmation that Killer Instinct players on Xbox One or Windows 10 will be able to play cross-network with players on Steam, as well, and we’re super excited to be able to bring that feature to you when KI launches on Steam in the coming weeks."
Austin quickly clarified that cross-play functionality between the Steam version and Xbox One/Windows 10 versions is still in its testing phase, so it might not always be fully functional, but its mere presence will likely be a welcome boon for Xbox One/Windows 10 players who want to play with their Steam friends and vice versa.
