Standalone Halo Wars Definitive Edition Goes On Sale This Week

Starting on Thursday, April 20, all Halo fans will be able to purchase Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, the remastered version of the original 2009 strategy title which includes enhanced graphics and other bonus features.

Microsoft announced the upcoming standalone launch via the Xbox Wire. The reason why this is such a big deal is because, until now, Halo Wars: Definitive Edition was only available to those who pre-ordered the Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition. Pre-order customers were able to download and play Halo Wars: Definitive Edition back in December of last year as a sort of appetizer ahead of Halo Wars 2 which launched this past February.

The standalone version of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition will be available on both Xbox One and PC. The PC version can be purchased via both the Windows Store and Steam and both versions include features like achievements and a server browser. However, since Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, those who purchase a Windows Store version will get a free digital Xbox One copy and vice versa.
