Shenmue III will require a whopping 100GB of space on PC
The Kickstarter-backed Shenmue III isn’t due to launch on PC and PlayStation 4 until sometime in 2019, but fans who want to prepare early can now consult the game’s minimum PC system requirements. If you plan on playing Shenmue III on PC though, you might want to make sure you have a lot of free space available on your hard drive, about 100GB of free space to be exact.
In a recent post on the Shenmue III Kickstarter page, Ys Net provided several relevant updates on the game’s development, including the fact that backer surveys in which backers can select which version of the game they want to receive (PC or PS4) are going out now. The post also included the minimum hardware specs needed to run Shenmue III on PC, and for the most part they’re actually not that strict. However, pay particular attention to how much free hard drive storage space Ys Net recommends:
- OS: Windows 7x64, Windows 8x64, Windows 10x64 (64-bit OS Required)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 (3.40 GHz) or better; Quad-core or better
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti or better (DirectX 11 card & VRAM 2GB Required)
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband internet connection
- Storage: 100 GB available space
- Sound card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
For comparison’s sake, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt requires a mere 35GB of hard drive space on PC, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim only needs 12GB. Ys Net does note that the system requirements are subject to change since Shenmue III is still in development, but if the game’s final version does indeed end up needing 100GB of hard drive space, one can only imagine how big of a game world it will feature. Ys Net also didn’t note whether the PS4 version of Shenmue III will require a similar amount of space, though you might want to start cleaning out your PS4 hard drive just in case.
