Raw Data gets PvP and an official launch

If you follow VR, you’ve probably heard of Raw Data, the futuristic, character based flagship title by Southern California studio Survios. It was the first VR title to reach Steam’s Global Bestseller list despite the fact it is still in Early Access.

That’s about to change, as Survios is officially launching Raw Data in September 2017, on the Vive, the Oculus, and PSVR. To mark the occasion Survios is adding some substantial new features we’re looking forward to trying out.

The biggest change is the addition of a PvP expansion called “Hostile Takeover.” If you’ve played Raw Data you can imagine the potential here; using your favorite characters and their special abilities to defend yourself against other players could be a real game changer.

According to Mike McTyre, the Design Director; “ Raw Data was always meant to be played with your friends beyond traditional co-op. Now, whether it’s an intense one-on-one duel or a chaotic 10-person battle, players can actually feel the adrenaline-charged intensity of fighting for their lives—only now against each other.”

You can see the new PvP mode in action, and we’ll let you know our thoughts once we’ve had a chance to test it out.

New Rogue Hunter class announced

There’s also a new playable character, the Rogue Hunter, and new map set in the Botanical Gardens of Eden Corp.

The Rogue Hunter is a technologically advanced archer that uses homing arrows, holographic decoys and other assassination tools to add some interesting variation to the sword/gunplay of the other three characters.

In addition to all of that, there’s also going to be a graphical overhaul courtesy of a new forward rendering system using Epic’s Unreal Engine. Raw Data is already a great looking title, so it will be interesting to see it polished even further.

It’s great to see Survios continuing to support Raw Data throughout Early Access, and now that it’s getting a final release, we’re looking forward to some VR PvP.
