The next Shovel Knight expansion is a multiplayer battle mode

Shovel Knight is becoming one of the best values in indie-games as Yacht Club Games announced yet another new game mode to the ever growing Treasure Trove package. Entitles Shovel Knight Showdown, this new mode turns the game into a local four player co-op arena fighter.

And this mode isn’t an afterthought as well. Players will be able to choose between 16 different characters, customize several options per match, fight in one vs. one duels, free-for-alls, team matches, mini games, hone their skills in practice mode, experience multiple Shovel Knight themed stages, and even progress through a single player story mode. The roster will be made up of many of Shovel Knight’s main characters including all of the Order of No Quarter. However, a few unexpected entrants will also be joining the roster, including iconic enemies like the Goldarmor.

Shovel Knight Showdown will be available as a free update to anyone who has already purchased the Treasure Trove DLC, and to any early adopters who received Shovel Knight as a Kickstarter reward. Everyone else can purchase the DLC separately if they desire. Unfortunately a release date has not yet been given.
