New Fallout 4 mod comes courtesy of NVIDIA

Those who play Fallout 4 on PC will soon have a new official mod they can download, and the mod comes courtesy of a rather unusual source: graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA.

The mod, titled Vault 1080, was developed by NVIDIA’s Lightspeed team, an internal sub-section of NVIDIA which focuses on remaking classic PC games so that they can run on the company’s NVIDIA Shield device. According to NVIDIA, Vault 1080 not only uses NVIDIA’s new horizon-based ambient technology to display more realistic lighting and shadows, it also includes a brand new standalone quest which takes about an hour to complete.

Here’s NVIDIA description of Vault 1080, a mysterious vault which lies beneath a seemingly abandoned church in the middle of a marsh:

“It’s certainly taken its toll on its occupants. They’ve become a congregation that embraces the darkness and sickness, and they’ve done it — so they believe — to survive. They’re not the friendliest bunch. But is the whole thing built on lies? The truth is deep within Vault 1080, through a whole lot of fearful mystery. Find it and decide for yourself whether the monsters deserve their salvation… or not.”

Vault 1080 will be available September 2 as a free download for the PC version of Fallout 4. There’s no word on whether it will eventually be brought over to the game’s console versions.
