Injustice 2 will have an optional microtransaction system
NetherRealm has confirmed there will be optional microtransactions in Injustice 2 which will allow players to more quickly acquire cosmetic gear and/or level up individual characters.
According to this post on the Injustice 2 website, players will be able to purchase a microtransaction currency called Source Crystals for real money. The post stresses that Source Crystals will not allow players to purchase stat-based gear and thus won’t allow for a “pay-2-win” situation. Instead, Source Crystals can only be used to do the following:
- Purchase new cosmetics for fighters such as premiere skins, shaders, and costume color swaps.
- “Transform” a piece of gear so that it retains its stats while taking on a new appearance chosen by the player (think World of Warcraft’s transmogrification system).
- Level up a character to the maximum level of 20 (this can only be done once the player has leveled up at least one character to 20 manually).
An FAQ in the post says that Source Crystals won’t be earnable through in-game methods, they’ll only be available via microtransaction purchases. A final price point for Source Crystals is still being decided.
