God of War, Spider-Man, nominated for WGA Awards

Award season continues as the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) have announced their nominees for 2018. While most of the awards are recognizing the best in film and television for the past year, they do have a video game category that recognizes the writing in some of year’s best in games.

This year the nominees include God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Batman: Enemy Within - Episode 5, and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Noticeably absent from the nominees list is Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the year’s most critically acclaimed games. The most plausible explanation for its absence, other than the WGA deeming the game to not be worthy of a nomination (which is highly doubtful), is that nominees must be members of the WGA. Red Dead Redemption 2 is credited as being written by three people, Dan Houser, Michael Unsworth, and Rupert Humphries, who possibly aren’t members of the WGA.

Winners will be announced on February 17. Check out the full list of nominees here.
