Deep Silver will publish Shenmue III
Shenmue III developer Ys Net and publisher Deep Silver have officially announced a formal partnership, with the latter set to publish the highly anticipated third entry in the Shenmue series.
Within a press release from Ys Net, the father of Shenmue himself, Yu Suzuki, expressed his excitement over partnering with Deep Silver and thus taking another major step towards the third game’s full launch:
“I am very pleased to secure this global partnership with Deep Silver, which is comprised of incredible men and women who have a deep passion for bringing Japanese titles to the rest of the world. Throughout this process, Deep Silver has expressed a deep passion for Japanese games, the Shenmue franchise and its fans—this gives me further confidence in Shenmue III and that we have found the best partner possible.”
For some, it’s still understandably hard to believe that Shenmue III is actually happening considering the fact that the last game in the series, Shenmue II, was originally launched for the Sega Dreamcast roughly 16 years ago (the game was later ported over to the original Xbox as well). Shenmue III still doesn’t have a solid release date other than “late 2018,” but the partnership with Deep Silver should hopefully move things along.
Yu Suzuki will also be on hand to discuss Shenmue III (and hopefully reveal some new information) during next week’s Gamescom convention.
