What is this place?

This is GameCrate. We’re a new gaming site. We’re going to feature news, reviews, interviews, and behind-the-scenes features on popular and below-the-radar games and hardware. We’re part of Newegg.com, and we want to provide a place for our fans to get more information about the games and technology they love. We’ve long had the greatest and most loyal fans in the business, and this site is being produced with them in mind.

Our writers and editors are all gamers. We love talking about video games and the personalities behind them. We build our own computers and care about e-sports. Games are our passion, and if you feel the same way we’d love for you to be part of the discussion on GameCrate. If you disagree with our views on something, let us know in the comments. If you’d like to share your own perspective, please do so. If you’re a gamer, this site is made for YOU, so speak up and help us make it the best that it can be.

Why “GameCrate”?

Well, the reason for the “Game” part of the name is obvious. Hopefully, anyway.

“Crates” have a long and proud history in gaming. They’ve been around forever, in part because they’re easy to render in 3D.  Crates are so much a part of gaming history that people have actually come up with entire review systems based on crates.  They also represent unlimited potential, because you never know what might be inside a crate!

What next?

Take a look around. Leave us some comments so we know what you like and what you don’t like. Help us shape this site and what we will do with it in the future. Follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook. Tell your friends.

But first…it’s dangerous to go alone. Take this:

Hmmm i thought it was like Lootcrate but only giving out games but it turns out its just another gaming website.

  • TheRevanchist

Well, I’m excited! This is just a natural progression of Newegg as a company. My only hope is that this place emphasizes what is happening in the present while still appreciating the past and giving nods to those pioneering games of yesteryear.

  • KamiShadow

Are you guys planning to hire more staff? Writers, editors, anything?

  • Soup

I like your sense of humor. I’ll definitely be checking back in the future.

  • Sumo Attuquayefio

    Any kind of community contributions?

  • http://www.gamecrate.com/ NickGC

    Stay tuned!

  • Sumo Attuquayefio

If you need any “help”, I’m down. Games are a part of me. Have been for 31yrs. And comics. And sex (just not as long).

  • Felix Edward Craig-Martinez

I already spent a good portion of my time buying stuff from NewEgg at least once every two weeks. Now I’m going to be spending more time here as well! NewEgg’s got a hold on me.

  • Dylan Petruska

This is why I love Newegg!

Hey Newegg, looking pretty nifty – wanted to give you a heads up that there are some styling issues with the doubleclick.net ad banner when the ad fails to load in Chrome stable (in my case my firewall does some filtering) – quick glance looks like the stylesheet is setting height:auto on all img tags and for some reason that is overriding the attribute height set on the img tag (instead of height=”90″ attribute on img tag, use style=”height: 90px;” to make the tag setting override the default style of auto) – this makes the ad banners absurdly huge in news posts, see screencaps for example.

Thanks for the very helpful feedback! We’ve passed it on to the right people.

  • Michael C

A team of highly trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation. Thanks for the heads up!

Nice. Half-Life is my favorite series of all time.

  • Michael Austin Mast

Just use adblock, it has fixed every ad related problem I have run into. Not only that it also protects myself, and my customers, from infected ads. Sorry NewEgg, I love you guys but ads are just way too risky!

I’m really excited for this. All hail GameCrate.

Consider offering Stephen Heaslip a senior or worthy position. He’s ran Blue’s News for years and has a loyal following. You won’t go wrong with including him in your staff. He has a huge amount of experience and respect from the gaming community at large. I have no personal interest in making this recommendation; I do not know him personally. I simply have a lot of respect for him and his web site.

Glad to see NewEgg start this up! Good things are afoot!

  • Apathetic

Very interested in the site, naming slightly bothers me, but only because of loot crate. Clicked the link expecting something else.

  • TooL-

I, for one, welcome our Newegg overlords.

  • Red Machine D

I’d really like you guys to cover the Galaxy GTX 750Ti OC Slim.

This is awesome that Newegg has their own game site now. I love newegg and have been buying stuff here constantly for the last 14 years.

  • Adam Acuo

You guys should give this up to the Newegg TV youtube channel they need to have the control of this not you guys they should be doing the reviews just like they have been better than anyone else bring the Newegg TV Crew!!!!!!

  • Michael C

We will be working with Newegg TV.

  • Matthew Chartier

I’ve always been a big fan of Newegg, so I’m interested in what’s being done here. But why should I trust the opinions expressed here about products that Newegg also sells?

  • http://www.gamecrate.com/ NickGC

It’s a good question, and we know that trust only comes with time. We’ll be talking more about our policies in detail in the coming weeks!

  • Jim Bauer

It is the natural progression of things… I buy pieces for my gaming computer because I trust them and value the input of their customer base… Now I get to game hunt using those very same people… Where is my +2 Mouse of Smiting?

  • http://www.treyjones.net Chocolatemilk

    Let’s see what you got.

  • BlackDog509

    Mmm kool-aid! Don’t mind if I do! =)
